making a photogram

Image
Photogram A photogram is a photographic image that is made without a camera, but by placing objects on light sensitive material then exposing it to light in a dark room. The paper is then developed using light sensitive chemicals. This cameraless photography technique gives sort of a photographic picture but it displays tones in order opposite from the reality. Man Ray Man Ray was an American visual artist who spent most of his career in Paris. He was a significant contribution to the Dada and Surrealist movements, although his ties to each were informal. He was best known for his pioneering photography, and he was a renowned fashion portrait photographer. Man Ray is also noted for his work with photograms, which he called "rayographs" (Rayogram) in reference to himself. expressionism

Image
Harold Davis "Shadow on a Hill" Expressionism is the idea of  the inner world of emotion rather than the reality. Its mainly based around the distortion of reality in order to express the artist's inner feelings / ideas. Harold Davis is an Expressionist artist who was born in 1953, and mainly started their photography work in around 2004 - 2008. The art he creates represents his own inner thoughts. This one, for example, is one that the viewer has to truly look at and find the hints of what is in the photo in order to be able to tell what it is. Originally it could be thought as simply just the side of a cliff (how I thought) but then once looking around the darkened shadowed areas it was clear to be shadows on a hill. My Interpretation To make a similar photo to the one Davis made, I simply took a photo of a tree trunk that had the leaves shadowing on it, and then edited it by putting a filter over it to make it black and white, like his image, and to hopefully make it s...

cubism

Image
e David Hockney Cubism is a style and art movement which uses simple geometric shapes in order to later collage multiple similar photos to create a new image. David Hockney is an artist born in 1937, mainly starting his artwork at around the mid to end 20th century.  The art he creates represents the idea of structuring photos without using more common techniques, but makes them look realistic to capture the main subject of the image . My Interpretation - Hockney Joiner In order to recreate Hockney's work, I used a method of doing the Hockney Joiner in order to create a similar effect to his own work. To do this, I used the rectangular marquee tool on photoshop to crop different areas of the original image, then moved them around slightly to make them off centre.
